Amazon expands Bosch universe with 2 more spin-offs

Amazon is expanding its Bosch TV universe with two more spin-off series in the works.
The online giant first brought Michael Connelly’s detective Harry Bosch to the screens back in 2015 and the crime drama went on to become Amazon Prime Video’s longest-running original drama to date, with the show going on for seven seasons.
Last year, Amazon’s free-with-ads platform Freevee tapped into the franchise’s appeal by releasing a spin-off series, Bosch: Legacy, which follows Harry Bosch and Money Chandler as they both begin new chapters in their lives.
“This Bosch spin-off refines what made its predecessor great in a gripping first season fuelled by the show’s passion for its characters,” we wrote in our review.
Now, Amazon’s looking to continue building on the universe’s potential to retain viewers and bring in new eyeballs from readers of Connelly’s books. One spin-off series will follow Jamie Hector’s Detective Jerry Edgar, while another will follow LAPD Detective Renee Ballard, another popular character from Connelly’s novels.
The news comes ahead of Bosch: Legacy returning to Amazon Freevee for Season 2. Whether either spin-offs will be Freevee exclusives or debut on Amazon Prime Video is yet to be confirmed. However, THR has reported the loglines for the two projects:
Untitled Jerry Edgar project
A police drama following Harry Bosch’s former partner, Detective Jerry Edgar, who is tapped for an undercover FBI mission in Little Haiti, Miami. In this glamorous city, he is forced to balance his new life with the gritty underbelly of the city, while being chased by his mysterious past.
Exec-producers will include Michael Connelly and Larry Andries, along with Fabel Entertainment’s Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate, and co-EP Jasmine Russ.
Untitled Renee Ballard project
Detective Renee Ballard is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division. Beyond simply investigating unsolved crimes, Renee is dedicated to bringing credibility to the department and justice to the community. Having learned from retired ally and mentor Harry Bosch, Renee does things her way – solving cases in unconventional ways while navigating the politics of being a woman on the rise in the LAPD.
Exec-producers will include Michael Connelly, Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood, along with Fabel Entertainment’s Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate, and co-EP Jasmine Russ.
