Netflix renews Alice in Borderland for Season 2

Netflix has renewed Alice in Borderland for a second season.
The series, starring Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya, is based on a survival and thriller manga (originally published in Weekly Shonen Sunday S / Weekly Shonen Sunday) by Haro Aso.
It follows Ryohei Alice (Alice), a listless, jobless and video-game-obsessed young man, who sees a strange light and suddenly finds himself in a mysteriously emptied out version of Tokyo along with his two best friends. They quickly discover that in this world, they must compete in one dangerous game after another in order to survive.
Since the show debuted on 10th December, it has already become the most popular Japanese Original live action title on Netflix. It has also proven popular across Asia – in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam – and made it to the 10 most-watched series in Germany, France, Portugal, Austria and Greece. In total, it’s been in Netflix’s Top 10 popular rankings in nearly 40 countries/territories. Google searches for the manga series Alice in Borderland also shot up globally around the time of its series adaptation release.

Alice in Borderland: Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya team up for Netflix series

Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya will star together in Alice in Borderland, a new series from Netflix.
Based on a survival and thriller manga (originally published in Weekly Shonen Sunday S / Weekly Shonen Sunday) by Haro Aso, it follows Ryohei Alice (Alice), a listless, jobless and video-game-obsessed young man, who sees a strange light and suddenly finds himself in a mysteriously emptied out version of Tokyo along with his two best friends. They quickly discover that in this world, they must compete in one dangerous game after another in order to survive.
Shinsake Sato will direct, having helmed such manga adaptations as I Am a Hero and Kingdom. Yamazaki is known for his role in that movie, as well as for playing the lead character in Ninokuni. Tsuchiya, who played her first dubbing role for Charlie in Bumblebeee this year, is also reuniting with Sato, after they worked together on Library War.
