Netflix is expanding its adult animation line-up with a new series about Elvis Presley. Sort of.
Priscilla Presley & John Eddie co-created & EP
Agent King is an action comedy featuring Presley as a covert government agent who fights to keep America safe while also maintaining his cover as the King of Rock & Roll.
From co-creators Priscilla Presley and John Eddie, the series is produced by Sony Pictures Animation and Authentic Brands Group. Presley and Eddie will be EPs on the series, alongside Authentic’s Jamie Salter, and Mike Arnold (Archer) will serve as showrunner on the programme.
Fletcher Moules will be supervising director and co-executive producer, with Marc Rosen and Corey Salter also co-EPs. John Varvatos will design Elvis’ entire wardrobe for the series and will serve as a consulting producer, along with Jerry Schilling.
“From the time Elvis was a young boy he always dreamed of being the superhero fighting crime and saving the world – Agent King lets him do just that,” his ex-wife said in a statement. “My co-creator John Eddie and I are so excited to be working with Netflix and Sony Animation on this amazing project and getting the chance to show the world an Elvis they haven’t seen before.”
The announcement was made on the 42nd anniversary of Elvis’ death, and continues Netflix’s commitment to new adult animation, with existing Netflix series including BoJack Horseman, Paradise PD and Matt Groening’s Disenchantment.
