Part 3: 2023 BAFTA nominees

This weekend sees Hollywood head to London for the 2023 BAFTAs, with Richard E Grant hosting the ceremony. With 45 features receiving nominations film fans will be spending this awards season catching up with the main contenders. Netflix’s All Quiet on the Western Front leads the pack with 14 nominations – a reminder that a number of the nominees are available to stream already.
The ceremony will air at 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday 19th February. For the first time, the final four category winners will be announced live on the TV – EE Rising Star, Leading Actor, Leading Actress and Best Film.

Rebellion (1 nomination)

Alisha Weir, Stephen Graham, Andrea Riseborough, Lashana Lynch and Emma Thompson star in this big screen adaptation of Tim Minchin and Dennis Kelly’s stage musical based on the Roald Dahl classic.

An entertaining cast and playful script make this knowing crime caper a fun night in.
She Said (2 nominations)
Based on the bombshell New York Times investigation, She Said follows the remarkable true story of how reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor went from underdogs to inspirations by shattering the silence surrounding sexual assault in Hollywood.
The Swimmers (1 nomination)
This broad-strokes underdog Olympics drama turns a moving true-life story into a familiar formula.
Tár (5 nominations)
Cate Blanchett stars in Todd Field’s drama about Lydia Tár, a groundbreaking conductor of a major German Orchestra whose life begins to unravel in a singularly modern way.
