11 times GBBO baker Selasi won our hearts

The Great British Bake Off returned last night for a seventh season and there’s already a clear winner for our hearts: Selasi Gbormittah.
The 30-year-old finance sector worker from Ghana bowled the whole nation over in under an hour last night, as he stayed impossibly chill at all times. While the tent went mad with people ditching and re-starting cakes – judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood took us back to basics, but with higher standards than ever – Selasi strolled past every challenge and hurdle without being fazed once.
“I don’t understand it,” he said at one point. “I’m just baking it.”
Who is this dream of a man? Selasi moved to the UK with his family 15 years ago and, while he now works long hours in London (where he lives with his girlfriend), he still finds time to bake and regularly impresses colleagues with his cupcakes. He shoots hoops. He smiles. He rides a motorbike. Once, he ate 12 doughnuts in 13 minutes. He’s basically the perfect man. Just look at him.
So chill and so charming, drizzling cool all over our internal muffins, he virtually impregnated half the country just by looking at the camera – and, as one Twitter user put it, could probably “wander into an operating theatre and deliver a baby without ever understanding how or why”.
Missed the first episode of Bake Off? Not feeling the love? Here are 11 times that Selasi was so chill he won our hearts.
When he won something
We’ve already imagined taking him home to meet our parents.
When someone mentioned the global financial crisis
We don’t understand it, we just get on with it.
When he came in first place for something
Hands up who’s our favourite…
When he rocked up to work like
Superman eat your heart out.
When Paul Hollywood fell for him
We know, Paul. We know.
When Jane did too
We are Jane.
When Candice asked him what the time was
When rescuing someone else from disaster
When the contestants were announced for this year
