What’s coming soon to STARZPLAY UK in May 2021?

As one of the smaller streaming platforms in the UK, STARZPLAY sometimes struggles when it comes to having a large enough library to compete with Netflix or Amazon Prime Video. 2021 has seen it stand out through the exclusive release of Stephen King’s The Stand and the second season of Pennyworth.
May is one of its busiest months yet, with not only a third chapter in The Girlfriend Experience and new dramedy Run the World but also the exclusive debut of Outlander-themed travelogue, Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham.

The Girlfriend Experience: Season 3 – 2nd May
Known as GFEs, they are women who provide The Girlfriend Experience – emotional and sexual relationships at a very high price. The third instalment of the anthology series is set amidst the London tech scene. Iris, a neuroscience major begins to explore the transactional world of The Girlfriend Experience, only to find herself deep inside the uncanny valley with the relationships she creates.Iris quickly learns that her client sessions provide her with a compelling edge in the tech world and vice versa. She then begins to question whether her actions are driven by free will, or something else altogether, and heads down a deep path of exploration. Episodes 1 and 2 debut at once, with remaining episodes arriving weekly. Season 1 and 2 are also available.
Military Wives – 4th May
With their partners away serving in Afghanistan, a group of women on the home front form a choir and quickly find themselves at the centre of a media sensation and global movement, in this feel-good story from Peter Cattaneo.
Men in Kilts – 9th May
Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham is a buddy travelogue through Scotland led by Outlander stars Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish. The two will reunite for an epic adventure, exploring their heritage and meeting an incredible collection of people who truly showcase what it means to be Scottish. The half-hour, eight-episode docuseries offers the duo’s one-of-a-kind perspective on everything from Scottish clans and the Battle of Culloden to whisky tasting and folk dancing, with Sam and Graham’s banter and hijinks leading the way. Whether hanging off the edge of a cliff, wrangling a flock of wild sheep or discovering the true legacy of their Outlander characters, both men dive headfirst into each and every experience. Episodes arrive weekly.
The Taking of Pelham 123 – 15th May
A NYC transit cop becomes an unlikely hero when a criminal gang hijacks a subway train and demands a huge ransom – or else passengers start getting killed.
Run the World – 16th May
Set in Harlem, Run the World follows a group of smart, funny, and vibrant 30-something Black women – fiercely loyal best friends – who live, work and play in Harlem. As they strive for world domination, they each navigate career highs and lows, hookups and heartbreaks that causes them to re-evaluate who they are and where they are going. At its core, it’s an authentic and unapologetic show about enviable friendship and not only surviving – but thriving together. The series stars Amber Stevens West (The Carmichael Show) as Whitney, a perfectionist who almost always plays by the rules; Andrea Bordeaux “NCIS: Los Angeles) as Ella, an audacious romantic, who is figuring out what she truly wants both personally and professionally; Bresha Webb (Marlon) as Renee, a soon-to-be-divorcee diva with a seemingly thriving career; and Corbin Reid (Valor) as Sondi, an erudite professional who begins to reevaluate both her career and personal priorities. Magic Mike – 24th May
Set in the world of male strippers, Magic Mike is directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars Channing Tatum in a story inspired by his real life. Mike spends his days roofing houses and designing furniture at his Tampa beach condo. But at night…he’s just magic as the hot headliner in an all-male revue. Just as another summer opens up to a world of fun, Mike begins falling for his new protégé’s captivating sister. Despite the mutual attraction, Mike might miss his chance when his lifestyle gets in the way.
Pennyworth: Season 2 – Weekly
A year after the explosive events of last season, England finds itself embroiled in a devastating civil war, with the powerful, neo-fascist Raven Union, led by Lord Harwood threatening to control the entire country. North London remains one of the few resistance holdouts remaining. It’s here in the West End Neutral Zone, that we find Alfred Pennyworth. After years in the British Army, his training with the SAS has taught him to be a cynical optimist –expecting the worst, but knowing that he can handle it. Now running The Delaney, a black-market Soho club that welcomes everyone, regardless of their politics, Alfred, with his SAS mates, Bazza” and “Daveboy, is now in search of a way out –before London, and his country, burns itself to the ground. And he’s got his eye on America. Season 2’s finale arrives on 2nd May.
Confronting a Serial Killer – Weekly
This intense and comprehensive docuseries tells the timely story of the unprecedented relationship between acclaimed author and journalist Jillian Lauren and the most prolific serial killer in American history, Samuel Little, and her race against time to identify his victims before it’s too late. Episodes arrive weekly until 16th May, when the finale airs.
