What’s coming soon to Netflix UK in April 2017?
David Farnor | On 23, Mar 2017
Better Call Saul. Those are the three words that Breaking Bad fans will think of when someone mentions April. But Jimmy McGill’s return to our screens next month is only the start of Netflix’s packed line-up. Three more words? The Get Down. Another three? Mystery Science Theater. And another? The Neon Demon. The list goes on.
Whether it’s Nicolas Winding Refn’s horror, Baz Luhrmann’s musical epic, or the revival of the 1980s cult TV classic, Netflix has a diverse 30 days in store, with Adam Sandler and Chelsea Handler both returning, Bill Nye bringing a welcome dose of brainy science stuff, and Nicholas Hoult and Henry Cavill teaming up for a war film. Two words are just as important as three, of course, as Sundance acquisition Casting JonBenet finally arrives on the streaming service, Designated Survivor continues each week, and Louis C.K. also delivers some brand new stand-up comedy.
Hot on the heels of 13 Reasons Why, meanwhile, comes Girlboss, which will keep fans of Pretty Little Liars entertained in between the teen drama’s final episodes. And speaking of teen drama, there’s still Riverdale to look forward to every Friday.
Here’s what is coming soon to Netflix UK in April 2017:
Note: All dates are subject to change. Bookmark this page: We’ll be keeping it updated throughout the month.
RuPaul’s Drag Race: Season 9 – 1st April
After Netflix’s deal at the end of March, new episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race: Season 9 are arriving on Netflix UK every Saturday.
Yes, Minister – 1st April
Already seen The Thick of It? This classic BBC satire proves that politics has always been a bumbling, incompetent mess.
Bridget Christie: Stand Up for Her – 1st April
If you’ve never seen the fiercely feminist comic tear into the world of sexism and stupidity, rectify that immediately.
Coupling: Season 1 to 4 – 1st April
Steven Moffat’s sitcom about a group of adults dating each other sounds like a British rip-off of Friends, but is much more, thanks to a clever script, excellent use of devices like split-screens and the inimitable Richard Coyle as the oddball of the group, Jeff. Where else can you hear the phrase “I’ve got the key to the gates of paradise, but I’ve got too many legs”?
The League of Gentlemen – 1st April
Hot on the heels of Psychoville and Inside No.9 (see the full list of BBC shows that arrived at the end of March), Netflix has also added this gem of British horror comedy from Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith. Set in the oddly believable town of Royston Vasey, it’s a surreal portrait of typical rural life, from the local shop that only serves local people and the butcher who serves… well, let’s just say we’re pretty sure it’s not animal meat.
Top Five – 1st April
Chris Rock is excellent both in front and behind the camera in this comedy about a comic trying to make it as a serious actor.
Mad Men: Season 1 to 5 – 1st April
Period costumes. Advertising pitches. Smoking. Jon Hamm. If you’ve never caught up with Don Draper, Peggy Olsen and the gang, now’s your chance to enjoy AMC’s drama, which is one of the best TV shows of the last decade. Season 6 and 7 added on 8th April.
Louis C.K. 2017 – 4th April
Netflix’s star-studded line-up of stand-up continues with Louis C.K., who returns to the stage to share his thoughts on how we count years, the concept of enduring love, giving dogs drugs, “Magic Mike” and much more.
iZombie: Season 3 – 5th April
Season 3 of iZombie will premiere on Netflix UK this April, with new episodes arriving every Wednesday, within 24 hours of their US broadcast. Catch up with our review of Season 1.
Dawn of the Croods: Season 3 – 7th April
Netflix’s original animated spin-off from the DreamWorks film returns. When Grug becomes the first leader of Ahhh! Valley, he must help solve the residents’ many problems, including keeping out the food-stealing Broods.
The Get Down: Part 2 – 7th April
As Zeke wrestles with the dual nature of his life and future, Mylene struggles to define herself as an artist, and Shao continues down a risky path.
Win It All – 7th April
While holding $50,000 for a pal in prison, a lovable screw-up with a gambling problem blows it all and must win it back before his friend gets out. Jake Johnson stars in Joe Swanberg’s indie comedy.
El Faro De Las Orcas – 7th April
A mother travels to Patagonia with her autistic son with the hopes that a ranger and a pod of wild orcas can help him find an emotional connection.
Kevin Hart: What Now? – 11th April
Rock star comic Kevin Hart takes it to another level in this stand-up set filmed in front of 50,000 people at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field.
Better Call Saul: Season 3 – 11th April
The Breaking Bad spin-off returns for a third season, as we continue to follow the transformation of well-intentioned lawyer Jimmy McGill into slimy sleaze-ball Saul Goodman. With Gus Fring also set to appear, expect even more drama, much more danger – and some tasty fried chicken.
Magic Mike – 13th April
Steven Soderbergh’s movie is a heartfelt character study of men who happen to be strippers. Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey showing off their movies is a bonus. A very shiny, steamy bonus.
Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return – 14th April
Joel Hodgson’s cult classic returns for more sarcastic commentary over bad movies, as a janitor is sent into space in the “not-too-distant future” to be forced to watch terrible films. Never seen it? The show’s original episodes from the 1980s have just been added to Netflix.
Sandy Wexler – 14th April
Adam Sandler’s new Netflix original sees him play an L.A. talent manager whose diligent attention to his offbeat clients’ careers is tested when he falls for a gifted singer.
Chelsea: Season 2 – 14th April
Chelsea Handler returns for a second season of her talk show.
Slam – 15th April
Teenage Sam dreams of becoming a skateboarding pro, but his life takes a dramatic turn when his girlfriend gets pregnant in this Italian original film.
The Neon Demon – 15th April
Beguiling and intoxicating, Nicolas Winding Refn’s satire of the modelling world is a masterpiece of mood. (Read our full review.)
The Babadook – 16th April
Quite simply one of the best horror movies of recent years – if you missed it last time it was on Netflix UK, don’t make the same mistake this time.
Lucas Brothers: On Drugs – 18th ApriL
Twins Keith and Kenny Lucas bring their fresh take on stand-up comedy to this Netflix-exclusive set shot at the Bell House in Brooklyn.
Matilda – 19th April
Loved the stage show? Then now’s the perfect time to revisit Danny DeVito’s pitch-perfect screen adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic tale.
Pretty Little Liars: Season 7, Episode 11 – 19th April
The long-running teen show, which stars Ashley Benson, Tyler Blackburn, Troian Bellisario, Lucy Hale, Ian Harding and Andrea Parker, will return once again to our screens as a Netflix UK exclusive – this time, for its final ever episodes. Episodes arrive weekly within 24 hours of their US broadcast.
Bill Nye Saves the World: Season 1 – 21st April
American TV’s favourite science guy hosts a new talk show exploring scientific issues from space exploration to fad diets. Guests join for lab demos and myth busting.
Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On – 21st April
This six-part docuseries is based on the acclaimed feature film Hot Girls Wanted. It will tell personal stories about people whose lives are affected by the explosion of the Internet where social media, pornography and virtual relationships are all just a click away. Each episode explores the intersection of sex and technology telling stories of intimacy, connection, disconnection, self-promotion, race and gender politics. How is interacting through screens rewiring us in fundamental ways?
Man to Man: Season 1 – 21st April
Netflix’s first Korean simulcast will see this new series arrive on Netflix UK at the same time as it airs in its home country. Man x Man stars Park Hae-jin as Kim Seol Woo, who becomes a ghost bodyguard for a top hallyu star, the secret “men” who surround him, and their mysterious exploits.
Tales by Light: Season 2 – 21st April
Four intrepid photographers create images that convey the beauty and power of life on planet Earth in Season 2 of this documentary series.
Girlboss: Season 1 – 21st April
Rebellious and broke, Sophia stumbles into creating a fashion empire and learns how to be the boss. A comedy series inspired by the best-selling book.

Pulled into a shady deal as the bagman, Danny retrieves the wrong briefcase and winds up on a wild trek with his pretty driver to get the right case.
The Mr. Peabody and Sherman Show: Season 4 – 21st April
