What’s coming soon to FilmStruck UK in May 2018?
David Farnor | On 28, Apr 2018
FilmStruck UK is only a couple of months old, and rather than swamp us in new releases, May is more about celebrating the gems it already has in its collection, as it highlights everything from past Cannes favourites to Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and Oldboy. Cary Grant lovers will be pleased with a double-bill, while Harold Lloyd gets a welcome chance to steal the silent cinema spotlight away from Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin. And, with the Royal Wedding on the way, what better time to enjoy Marilyn Monroe in The Prince and the Showgirl?
The new arrivals we do get, though, are about quality more than quantity, as the site’s classy film noir selection gets an upgrade courtesy of James Cagney, and Steve McQueen, Sam Peckinpah and Paul Newman significantly beef up the platform’s testosterone levels.
Here’s what’s coming soon to FilmStruck UK in May:
Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid (1973) – 1st May
Sam Peckinpah’s 1973 Western sees Pat Garrett (James Coburn) is hired as a lawman by Governor Wallace (Jason Robards) on behalf of a group of wealthy New Mexico cattle barons to bring down his old friend Billy the Kid (Kris Kristofferson).
The Cincinnati Kid (1965) – 1st May
Steve McQueen stars in this 1965 drama about Eric “The Kid” Stoner, an up-and-coming poker player who tries to prove himself in a high-stakes match against a long-time master of the game – Lancey “The Man” Howard. Lalo Schifrin provides the soundtrack.
Cat On A Hot Tin Roof (1958) – 1st May
Elizabeth Taylor. Paul Newman. Burl Ives. Before you even get to Tennessee Williams’ name, this 1958 drama based on the play on the same name is a must-see, as Newman and Taylor play a washed-up sports player and his wife, visiting his family’s Mississippi plantation for his father’s birthday.
