Disney’s Netflix rival is here, serving up Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar originals, along with a post-modern revamp of High School Musical and every episode of The Simpsons.

It’s all about Star Wars this May, with the solo series for a certain Jedi master making its debut – joined by Disney Gallery: The Book of Boba Fett and LEGO Star Wars All-Stars – but there’s more to look at in a galaxy closer to home, from Danny Boyle’s Pistol, based on the memoir of guitarist Steve Jones, Amy Schumer’s new comedy-drama Life & Beth, co-starring Michael Cera, the long-awaited UK premiere of How I Met Your Father and new French drama Oussekine, starring Succession’s Hiam Abbass.

Here’s what’s coming soon to Disney+ UK in May 2022:

American Crime Story: Season 1 and 2 – 4th May

The anthology series makes its Disney+ UK debut, with the first season chronicling The People OJ Simpson, starring Cuba Gooding Jr, John Travolta, David Schwimmer and
Sterling K Brown, and the second season retelling The Assassination of Gianni Versace, starring Édgar Ramírez, Darren Criss, Ricky Martin and Penélope Cruz.

How I Met Your Father: Season 1 – 11th May

In the near future, Sophie is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the present where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options. All episodes arrive at once.

Sneakerella – 13th May

In this high-energy, music-driven Cinderella story – El, an aspiring sneaker designer from Queens, works as a stock boy in a shoe store and hides his talent. Sparks fly after a chance encounter with Kira King, a Manhattan Princess Charming of sorts. With a nudge from his best friend and a sprinkle of magic, El finds the courage to lace up and dream big.

Life and Beth: Season 1 – 18th May

Life & Beth tells the story of Beth, a woman whose life would look pretty great on paper. Impressive to everyone she grew up with, she makes a good living as a wine distributor, she’s in a long-term relationship with a successful guy and lives in Manhattan. When a sudden incident forces Beth to engage with her past, her life changes forever… All episodes arrive at once.

Obi-Wan Kenobi – 27th May

Obi-Wan Kenobi begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. The series stars Ewan McGregor, reprising his role as the iconic Jedi Master, and also marks the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader. Joining the cast are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie. Episodes 1 and 2 arrive together, with the remaining episodes dropping weekly.

Pistol – 31st May

Based on Jones’ memoir Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol, the limited series Pistol is the story of a band of spotty, noisy, working-class kids with “no future,” who shook the boring, corrupt Establishment to its core, threatened to bring down the government and changed music and culture forever. The furious, raging storm at the centre of this revolution are the Sex Pistols – and at the centre of this series is Sex Pistols’ founding member and guitarist, Steve Jones. Jones’ hilarious, emotional and at times heart-breaking journey guides us through a kaleidoscopic telling of three of the most epic, chaotic and mucus-spattered years in the history of music. All episodes arrive at once.

Oussekine – Date TBC

On the night of 5 December 1986, 22-year-old Malik Oussekine was beaten to death by the police. The state machine steps into gear, led by Robert Pandraud. The Oussekine family quickly realise that they will have to fight for justice and to expose the truth. Oussekine is a four-episode miniseries about the Oussekine family’s struggle. It goes back through the events, shows their hopes and disillusions and paints the portrait of a country in turmoil.
