David Farnor | On 27, Nov 2021
Disney’s Netflix rival is here, serving up Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar originals, along with a post-modern revamp of High School Musical and every episode of The Simpsons.
This Christmas is all about the debut of Boba Fett’s solo outing, but there’s more than just Star Wars to unwrap on Disney+, including the release of new animations Encanto and Ron’s Gone Wrong. Coming to the adult-friendly Star are not only the thrilling BBC drama The Salisbury Poisonings and Fox’s iconic sitcom Malcolm in the Middle but also Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel, fresh from cinemas, and Thai cave documentary The Rescue. And there’s the added bonus of both Paddington films arriving to see in the new year.
Here’s what’s coming soon to Disney+ UK in December 2021:
The Last Duel (Star) – 1st December
Jodie Comer gives a stunning performance in this thought-provoking drama set against the brutality of 14th century France from Ridley Scott. Based on actual events, the film centres on the accusation by Marguerite de Carrouges (Comer) that she was brutally assaulted by Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver), the friend of her husband, Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon). In order to protect his pride and prove his wife’s claim, de Carrouges requests to fight Le Gris to the death. Now, all three lives hang in the balance in this society that holds that the victor of this grisly duel will be determined by God. Moreover, if de Carrouges dies in this fight, Marguerite will be put to death.
