Here’s what’s coming to BFI Player’s subscription service in June 2022:
Reflection – 2nd June
Ukrainian surgeon Serhiy is captured by the Russian military forces in the conflict zone in Eastern Ukraine and while in captivity, he is exposed to horrifying scenes of humiliation, violence and indifference towards human life. After his release, he returns to his comfortable middle-class apartment and tries to find a purpose in life by rebuilding his relationship with his daughter and ex-wife. He learns how to be a human being again, how to be a father and help his daughter, who needs his love and support.
A Man Escaped – 2nd June
Based on the true story of a Gestapo prisoner who escaped from prison just hours before his scheduled execution, Bresson’s film is a suspenseful realist drama and a moving metaphorical fable about chance and redemption.
Vita & Virgina – 2nd June
Based on a true story, VITA & VIRGINIA details the passionate relationship between literary trailblazer Virginia Woolf (Elizabeth Debicki), and enigmatic aristocrat Vita Sackville-West (Gemma Arterton). When their paths cross, the magnetic Vita decides the beguiling, stubborn and gifted Virginia will be her next conquest, no matter the cost.
I Am Samuel – 2nd June
Kenyan couple Samuel and Alex remain committed to each other despite the danger and hardship facing them in this moving documentary portrait.
The Leather Boys – 2nd June
Reggie (Colin Campbell) and Dot (Rita Tushingham) are a young South London couple who get married before they really get to know each other. After the marriage, they quickly begin to drift apart. Dot seems content to pursue her own interests, until Reggie meets Pete (Dudley Sutton), a fellow motorcyclist, and begins to explore his own identity.
