Netflix nabs Sundance horror His House
26th January 2020
Netflix has nabbed the global rights to horror film His House at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
The Utah event has become a competitive marketplace for streaming players, as they seek to snap up the next indie breakout hit, such as Manchester by the Sea or Mudbound. In 2020, Netflix is wasting no time in getting ahead of the competition by acquiring the global rights for His House before it even premieres.
The film, which screens in the Midnight section on Monday 27th January, is the debut feature of Remi Weekes, a British director and screenwriter who wrote and directed the short film Tickle Monster, which premiered at the SXSW Film Festival. Weekes was a co-founder of Tell No One, a production outfit specialising in experimental short-form video content. His shorts and commercial campaigns have won numerous awards including a Gold Lion at the Cannes Advertising Festival, and have been exhibited in prestigious galleries and film festivals worldwide such as New York’s Guggenheim and London’s National Gallery.
