Netflix has nabbed the rights to French crime thriller The Mantis (La Mante).
The series, which is made by Septembre Productions, stars Carole Bouquet. Best known for playing “Bond girl” Melina Havelock in For Your Eyes Only, she also won the Cesar Award for Best Actress for Too Beautiful for You in 1990 and recently co-starred in 2014’s Rosemary’s Baby miniseries, alongside Jason Isaacs and Zoe Saldana.
The thriller is a six-part series and follows Jeanne Deber, a serial killer who, more than 25 years after terrifying France, is forced by the police to help hunt down a copycat. She agrees, but on one condition: her son, now a cop, works by her side. Bouquet, who plays Deber, will be joined by Fred Testot, Jacques Weber, Pascal Demolon and Frédérique Bel.
It’s created by Alice Chegaray-Breugnot, Grégoire Demaison, Nicolas Jean and Laurent Vivier, with Alexandre Laurent directing.
The show has just aired on France in TF1, where it’s arriving on Netflix following its broadcast. Now, the streaming service has confirmed that it will premiere the show around the rest of the world in December, in a deal inked with AB International Distribution. It follows international deals for AB’s sci-fi series Missions with both BBC Four and AMC’s horror subscription service, Shudder.
All episodes of The Mantis will be available on Netflix UK on 29th December.
