The BBC is bringing together BBC iPlayer and other content through a new personalised app.

Called BBC+, the app promises to “put the things you care about from across the BBC at your fingertips”.

The app, which is free to download on iOS and Android devices, uses the BBC ID that the broadcaster has introduced across all of its services in recent years. By signing in, users receive updates, information and recommendations based around the subjects you’re interested in, from money and politics to books, sports and food.

The app forms part of the BBC’s strategy for delivering a “more personal” BBC to viewers and listeners. To date, more than 7 million people have signed in to the BBC to benefit from more personalised experiences, which enables them to discover things they might not otherwise have found.

Clare Hudson, Executive Editor of Homepage and BBC+, says: “By making BBC+ customisable, we are able to give users more relevant things to read, watch and listen to from across the BBC. This means you can use your spare moments well because once you’ve caught up on the day’s main events, you can browse articles from across the BBC on topics you’ve chosen yourself. It’s also an easy way to discover things you weren’t expecting to find, as everything is brought together in one simple app.”

Indeed, with BBC Three now on online channel, for example, the Beeb is keen to ensure that its content is getting the maximum exposure possible among UK audiences. While some may not find BBC Three either through its website or through its integration with iPlayer, the BBC+ app will enable the BBC to display what’s new from the channel, along with other streaming content, such as iPlayer originals.
