The BBC has more Daddy Issues on the way, with BBC Three ordering a second season of the comedy.
The series, starring Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey, follows Gemma (Aimee Lou Wood), a young woman in Stockport who discovers she’s pregnant after a random hook-up. With her sister Catherine (Sharon Rooney) in prison and her mum Davina (Susan Lynch) travelling around the world to find herself, Gemma had no choice but to turn to her hapless father Malcolm (David Morrissey) for support. From dating disasters and failed romances through to toxic friendships and messy family dynamics, the show is a big hearted story about a father and daughter, and the reality of facing up to parenthood – at any stage of life.
The show premiered earlier this year, becoming the biggest comedy launch for BBC Three since the start of 2022. Now, a second season is on the way, following the events at the end of Season 1, which saw Gemma going into labour at Rita’s (Sarah Hadland) salon.
Returning for Season 2 will be the supporting cast, including Gemma’s friend, Cherry (Taj Atwal), and Xander (Arian Nik), plus Malcolm’s toxic friend, Derek (David Fynn).
Writer Danielle Ward says: “A second series? And I’ve found out by reading this press release? Unbelievable. I’m thrilled to be writing for Aimee and David (and the rest of this fabulous cast) again.”
Jon Petrie, Director of BBC Comedy says: “We’re delighted to play midwife to a second series of Daddy Issues. Danielle Ward’s razor sharp scripts and the dream pairing of Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey have struck a chord with viewers.”
Aimee Lou Wood says: “Daddy Issues is the most fun I’ve ever had on a job and I can’t wait to do it again!”
David Morrissey says: “I’m delighted to be doing another series of Daddy Issues. Working with Aimee was a dream, and Danielle’s writing is so funny and heartwarming! Can’t wait!”
