What We Do in the Shadows Season 2 set for June UK air date

Season 2 of the What We Do in the Shadows TV series finally has a confirmed UK air date, with the show set to premiere once more on BBC Two this June.
Based on the mockumentary horror comedy film of the same name, the new series tells the story of three vampire roommates born during different eras, who have to adapt to modern times as they attempt to survive the New World on Staten Island.
The self-appointed leader of the group is Nandor The Relentless (Kayvan Novak), a great warrior and conqueror from the Ottoman Empire, who has taken the helm of the group despite many of his Old World tactics resulting in what some might politely refer to as bupkis.
British vampire Laszlo (Matt Berry) is a bit of a rogue and a dandy and a fop, he might say. He’s a lover of mischief and a great soirée, but not as much as he loves seeing Nandor fail miserably in every attempt. And then there’s Nadja (Natasia Demetriou): the seductress, the temptress, the vampiric Bonnie to Laszlo’s Clyde. Her wisdom and provocative tales from times past allow us insight into the many ups and downs of living an immortal life.
Also cohabiting in the vampire household is Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), Nandor’s familiar (a.k.a. servant/protector during the daylight hours), who wants nothing more than to be made a real vampire just like his master. Also lurking about is Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), an energy vampire and day-walker of sorts – he feasts on humans, but not on their blood.
A frequent visitor is Nadja’s new friend, Jenna (Beanie Feldstein), a student at a nearby community college. She loves LARPing, boys, and art history, and for some reason has been rather confused lately as to why it is she so ravenously craves the flesh of the living.
After an unexpected visit from their dark lord and leader on Season 1, Baron Afanas, the vampires were reminded of what they were initially tasked with upon their arrival in Staten Island over a hundred years ago – total and complete domination of the New World. But what exactly is the best way to go about achieving said domination? Our vérité camera crew follows along as the vampires set out to answer this query.
Season 2 will air on BBC Two on Thursday 11th June at 10pm, with episodes airing two at a time weekly.
What We Do in the Shadows: Season 1 is available on BBC iPlayer until June 2021.

“This wonderfully silly comedy transforms vampire horror into flatshare sitcom,” we wrote in our review of Season 1. “If you liked the 2014 original or BBC One’s Ghosts, sink your teeth into this immediately.”
FX has since renewed the programme for a second run, and creator Jemaine Clement, who starred in the original film, revealed a surprising addition to the series’ cast: Star Wars legend Mark Hamill, who will guest star in Season 2, although the details of his character are currently under wraps.
Clement, speaking at the FX TCA winter press tour panel, revealed that another notable change was taking place behind the camera, with Taika Waititi (who helmed three episodes of Season 1) not set to return as director during Season 2.
“We tried to stay away from some things in the movie, but FX wanted. Otherwise, we try to stay away,” Clement told the press.
Season 2 will premiere this spring, with the UK air date likely to follow soon after. BBC Two currently holds the exclusive rights to FX shows as part of an ongoing deal between the two broadcasters.
Trailer: What We Do in the Shadows series set for March US release
5th February 2019
This March, they awake. Or, at least, that’s when they awake in the US, as FX has finally confirmed the release date its What We Do in the Shadows TV series.
From executive producers Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) and Paul Simms (Atlanta) with Academy award-winner Scott Rudin, the comedy is based on the feature film by Waititi made in 2014.
“This is a sharply tailored vampire flick that upholds tradition yet sinks its teeth into it with flair,” we wrote in our review of the film. “It’s moving, it’s clever, it’s mercilessly quick, but most of all, it’s bleeding funny.”
The 10-episode series will take place in New York City and follows three vampires who have been roommates for hundreds and hundreds of years trying to cope in the modern world. It stars BAFTA winner Matt Berry, Kayvan Novak, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillen and Mark Proksch.
Last year, the Beeb inked a first-run deal with FX, which makes it the exclusive home for all of FX’s original programmes. That means you can expect What We Do in the Shadows the TV series to debut on BBC Two. We don’t have an official release date for the UK beyond “spring”, but with FX set to drop the show on 27th March, you can expect the UK not to be far behind. Watch this space for a confirmed UK air date – until then, here’s the trailer:
What We Do in the Shadows TV series will air on BBC
3rd November 2018
The BBC will be the UK TV home of the upcoming What We Do in the Shadows series.
From executive producers Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) and Paul Simms (Atlanta) with Academy award-winner Scott Rudin, the comedy is based on the feature film by Waititi made in 2014.

The series stars BAFTA winner Matt Berry, Kayvan Novak, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillen and Mark Proksch. The 10-episode comedy is produced by FX Productions and Scott Rudin Productions.
The Beeb’s acquisition of the show is part of a wider deal with FX, which expands the two broadcaster’s relationship to make the BBC the primary UK home of all its scripted (comedy and drama) original series.
The first deal of its kind for FX, the agreement gives the BBC the rights to the UK produced Devs, from acclaimed UK writer and producer Alex Garland, and Ryan Murphy’s groundbreaking new drama series Pose, which examines New York’s transgender-Ball culture of the late 1980’s and the LGBTQ community during the growing HIV crisis.
It builds upon their existing partnership, which saw them co-produce Tom Hardy, Ridley Scott and Steven Knight’s Taboo and, BBC Two air both The People vs O.J. Simpson and The Assassination of Gianni Versace from the American Crime Story anthology, the drama series Feud, the comedy Atlanta, and, most recently, Danny Boyle’s Trust and narcotics thriller Snowfall.
Charlotte Moore, Director, BBC Content, says: “The BBC has a proud tradition of bringing audiences the very best shows from around the world, and this exciting new partnership with FX builds on our strong existing relationship.”
What We Do in the Shadows the TV series will debut on BBC Two next spring.
