FilmDoo has launched a crowdfunding campaign to support its international expansion.
The UK-based video on-demand start-up, which launched at the Cannes Film Festival last year, has made its name by providing a platform for international filmmakers. Hand-picking award-winning films from festivals that might not otherwise receive distribution, it helps emerging and established filmmakers reach reach new, global audiences – and film buffs to discover new talent.
It also focuses on building a global community, with social recommendations from users helping to bring a film to their region.
The platform has seen rapid growth, with traffic increasing from just over 9,000 visitors at the start of the year to nearly a quarter of a million last month. Its library has grown too, including nearly 1,000 feature films and short films from over 20 countries, from independent award-winning films such as God Loves the Fighter (from Trinidadian director Damian Marcano) to In the Absence of the Sun (from Indonesian director Lucky Kuswandi).
FilmDoo is continuing to expand its library, as well as build its presence around the world – and has turned to crowdfunding to help do it. The site launched a campaign on Seedrs this week. In just a few days, FilmDoo has already raised almost almost $65,000 from over 30 investors, taking it to 68 per cent of its £95,000 target.
“We are proud to announce the launch of FilmDoo’s new crowdfunding campaign on Seedrs. FilmDoo will be raising nearly £100,000 to improve technology, product development, and marketing to allow more people around the world to access FilmDoo across more devices,” explains William Page, FilmDoo co-founder and General Counsel.
“With minimum investment starting from as little as £10, the FilmDoo story is now open to a wider global community,” comments Weerada Sucharitkul, FilmDoo co-founder. She says: “FilmDoo will revolutionise how you can view great international content. Each time you watch a film on our platform, you are also helping talented filmmakers around the world.”
FilmDoo’s proprietary platform matches viewers with the best-fit films based on selection criteria that they input, delivering a fast, high-quality, and reliable way to engage with the world’s best independent films.
“Viewers are increasingly looking for expertise within the rapidly-growing video-on-demand segment, and Filmdoo gives viewers the best experience possible through the use of our technology,” adds Ralph Stenzel, FilmDoo CTO. “We consistently deliver high success rates and repeat usage. FilmDoo’s expertise and extreme technological edge will allow us to continue our growth and dominance in the global video-on-demand sector.”
