Amazon is offering the first episode of The Grand Tour for free this Christmas, along with the first episode of all of Amazon’s originals.
The record-breaking opener of its motoring show, which premiered last month, kicked things off in California, where, after an epic opening sequence, Jeremy, Richard and James arrive at their travelling studio tent in Dry Rabbit Lake to be greeted by thousands of fans who have journeyed from across the US to join the trio to launch the new car series for Amazon Prime Video.
The debut chapter became the biggest show premiere ever on Amazon Prime Video, with millions of Prime members streaming the show. Now, anyone can stream it this Christmas weekend for free, without an Amazon Prime Video subscription.
“The Grand Tour premiere has broken all Amazon streaming records, so we wanted to give all customers an opportunity to watch one of the biggest TV shows of the year this Christmas weekend,” says Jay Marine, VP Amazon Video EU.
All UK customers can also watch the first episodes of all of Amazon’s original series, including the Golden Globe and BAFTA winners Transparent and Mozart In The Jungle, plus The Man In The High Castle, Billy Bob Thornton legal thriller Goliath and Kids shows Creative Galaxy, Tumble Leaf, The Stinky & Dirty Show, Just Add Magic, Wishenpoof, and Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street.
Lots of those shows already have their first episodes available for free anyway, as part of Amazon’s pilot scheme, but Goliath and The Grand Tour, which were ordered straight to series without going through the pilot process, would not normally be available, so this is a rare chance to get a free taste of both.
The first episodes will be available for free today, on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. You can view the shows through the Amazon Video app on smart TVs, iPhone & iPad, Fire tablets, android phones and tablets, Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, plus games consoles such as Xbox, PlayStation, Wii and Wii U.
