What’s leaving NOW TV / Sky in April and May 2016?
David Farnor | On 23, Apr 2016
As April prepares to disapparate from our lives once more, one young wizard is getting a head-start: yes, Harry Potter is leaving NOW and Sky Movies On Demand this weekend. But he’s not the only one taking the Floo Network away from our screens, with Only Lovers Left Alive and Batman Begins following suit before the end of the month.
For NOW subscribers with an Entertainment Membership – or Sky customers planning out their catch-up TV diaries – April’s end is equally dramatic, as we prepare to bid farewell to the second half of The Walking Dead’s sixth season, not to mention the whole of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
This is your last chance to stream the following on NOW and Sky On Demand:
TV Shows
Lucky Man – 24th April
James Nesbitt is on charismatic form in Sky 1’s original thriller about a cop who finds himself the owner of a mysterious bracelet that gives him seemingly unlimited luck. Created by Stan Lee and full of enough near misses to stop the ridiculous premise becoming unbelievable, this is fun, trashy viewing.
The Americans Season 3 – 24th April
Catching up on your favourite undercover Russians in the USA? You’ve only got this weekend to see the first two episodes of The Americans’ third season – Episode 3 and 4 are around until mid-May.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – 1st May
Both seasons of Marvel’s small-screen spin-off from The Avengers are disappearing at the start of the month – don’t miss your chance to see them before Captain America: Civil War hits cinemas.
Broad City Season 1 – 2nd May
What started out as a web series about two women in New York has blossomed into a Comedy Central favourite, starring Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson.
Dogs Might Fly Season 1 – 3rd May
Can dogs fly? That’s the subject of this knowingly daft new show by Sky 1, which follows the training of pups to pilot small aircraft.
The Walking Dead Season 6 Part 2 – 14th May
Eeny. Meeny. Miny. Moe.

Movies
Harry Potter – 23rd April
“You’re a wizard, Harry.” Ever since Hagrid said those immortal words, Warner Bros’ franchise based on JK Rowling’s books just kept getting better, building to an epic finale that actually justified being split into two halves. All-night binge-viewing marathon, anyone?
Sherlock Holmes – 29th April
Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law bring enough bromance to the table as Holmes and Watson, and Guy Ritchie injects enough style behind the camera, to make this big-budget take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective stand up surprisingly well to the now iconic BBC adaptation.
Batman Begins – 30th April
The first part of Christopher Nolan’s Bat trilogy remains, arguably, the best.
Only Lovers Left Alive – 30th April
Adam (Tom Hiddleston) and Eve (Tilda Swinton) are two vampires whose love affair has lasted centuries. She’s living in Tangier; he’s in Detroit. But when Adam gets lonely and depressed, Eve makes her way across the world to snap him out of his stupor. Director Jim Jarmusch switches gears once more to tell this entrancing outing, which manages to be part stoner comedy, part horror and part examination of contemporary culture.
Spider-Man – 30th April
Sam Raimi’s take on the web slinger may seem like a long time ago, given the number of reboots Spidey’s had since, but it’s primary-coloured action and genuinely cute couple of Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst makes this an under-rated early entry in cinema’s great comic book collection.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes – 9th May
Cloverfield’s Matt Reeves picks up the camera for this stunning sequel to 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes reboot. As a team of human settlers struggle to survive after the ape virus spread across the planet, they find themselves having to work with the primates – until politics causes war to break out.
