What’s leaving Amazon Prime Video UK in March / April 2021?
James R | On 23, Mar 2021
As the UK gradually finds its way back to an easing of lockdown restrictions, Amazon Prime Video’s sizeable library of movies and TV shows is a useful resource for keeping entertained indoors. But before you start bingeing through the line-up, don’t miss out on catching up with some modern gems before their rights expire.
This is your last chance to stream the following with Amazon Prime UK:
Charlie Wilson’s War – 26th March
Written by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) and directed by Mike Nichols (The Graduate), Charlie Wilson’s War is a political comedy teeming with refreshing humour to confront a nigh forgotten political gamble taken amidst the cold war. Tom Hanks and Philip Seymour Hoffman star.
Leave No Trace – 28th March
Two superb performances power this moving, thoughtful study of home, family and identity.
Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey – 29th March
This underrated, surreal sequel imagines it’s all going to be alright in the end.
Meek’s Cutoff – 29th March
Kelly Reichardt’s deliberately slow-paced revisionist Western is an acquired taste, but one that rewards revisits.
The Falling – 29th March
This funny, shocking paranormal coming-of-age musical is entrancing cinema.
Seven – 30th March
David Fincher’s nail-bitingly dark thriller is unrelenting, unflinching and utterly riveting.
The Hunger Games – 31st March
Don’t miss your chance to binge on the full box set of the young adult franchise, which sees Jennifer Lawrence on excellent form as Katnis Everdeen, the unwitting leader of a rebellion in a dystopia that forces young people to combat each other once a year.
Jurassic Park – 31st March
With your window to watch the dino-tastic original trilogy closing, think less about the fact that you could watch it and more about why you should.
The Wedding Guest – 31st March
Dev Patel delivers an excellent turn against type in this slight but compelling thriller.
Song of the Sea – 31st March
An astounding animated gem.
Eddie the Eagle – 31st March
Dexter Fletcher’s underdog sports movie is heartwarming and uplifting in a way that is utterly disarming.
The Americans: Season 1 to 6 – 31st March
This superb period drama, which follows the complex marriage of two KGB spies – Elizabeth (Keri Russell) and Phillip Jennings (Matthew Rhys) – posing as Americans in suburban Washington DC in Reagan-era America, is one of the best TV shows of the past decade.
Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan – 31st March
Sacha Baron Cohen’s fictitious Kazakhstani journalist journeys to America for this entertaining satirical mockumentary.
Contagion – 3rd April
Steven Soderbergh’s film about a plague spreading across the planet is not only scarily believable but grippingly tense.
Black Sails: Season 1 to 4 – 2nd April
Produced by Michael Bay, Starz’s pirate prequel, set before the events of Treasure Island, charts the bloodthirsty career of Captain Flint, the rise of Long John Silver and the growing dispute between the British Empire and the independently-minded Nassau. Toby Stephens is brilliantly nasty as our lead, while the nautical set pieces are frequently breathtaking.
The Personal History of David Copperfield – 2nd April
Armando Iannucci’s quick-witted, modern period drama is an absolute delight.
A Star Is Born – 10th April
Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga shine in this foot-stomping tearjerker of a musical, which heads to Netflix UK in April.
An Education – 14th April
An intoxicating slice of 1961 that’s hard to resist.
Bad Moms – 16th April
Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn have comic chemistry to burn in this entertaining comedy.
Sense and Sensibility (1996) – 17th April
Ang Lee’s take on Sense and Sensibility features a stellar script from Emma Thompson, who also joins an impressive cast that includes Kate Winslet, Tom Wilinson, Hugh Grant and – most importantly – Alan Rickman in a hat as Colonel Brandon.
