What’s leaving Amazon Prime Video UK in July / August 2019?
James R | On 18, Jul 2019
Summer is out in full force, but while the sunshine is tempting people outside, there are equally tempting reasons to stay indoors, as your window to stream some modern classics on Amazon Prime Video shrinks.
From time travel gems and tender romances to monsters fighting robots twice the size of buildings, this is your last chance to stream the following:
Let the Right One In – 18th July
A haunting meditation on desire and devotion, this tender vampire coming-of-age tale is one of the best horrors of the last 10 years.
Carol – 19th July
Gorgeous and heartbreaking, Carol is an elegant portrait of desire and restraint.
Pacific Rim – 23rd July
What’s the only thing that can stop a gigantic alien invasion? Even larger robots. That’s the premise behind Guillermo Del Toro’s unabashedly retro actioner, which hits all the monster movie buttons you could wish. The non-robot cast includes Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba.
Mud – 25th July
Ellis and his friend Neckbone are two boys who meet Mud (Matthew McConaughey), a fugitive hiding out on an island in the Mississippi. Skeptical but intrigued by his fantastic scenarios, they agree to help him. It isn’t long until Mud’s visions come true and their small town is besieged by bounty hunters. Jeff Nichols’ 2012 film is a remarkable, understated combination of poignant coming-of-age drama, southern gothic thrills and childlike adventure.
Safety Not Guaranteed – 30th July
“Wanted: Somebody to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. Must bring your own weapons. Safety not guaranteed.” That newspaper classified ad was enough to inspire director Colin Trevorrow to explore the idea of a homemade time machine. Played heartwarmingly by Mark Duplass, is the writer of the ad a genius, a madman or liar? The film’s charm lies in its open-hearted acceptance of all of the possibilities, as Aubrey Plaza’s outcast intern gradually becomes friends with the reclusive traveller. The result is a romantic, funny, serious drama… that just happens to be about time travel.
