What’s leaving Amazon Prime Video UK in January / February 2016?
David Farnor | On 30, Jan 2016
Amazon Prime Video has just had its busiest month ever, with the arrival of Lucifer, Ripper Street, Black Sails: Season 3 and Mad Dogs. But just as things arrive in the streaming service’s line-up, things also depart, as licences expire and aren’t renewed. Some things will be renewed and brought back again in a few months’ time; others will never return.
While we don’t have the dates confirmed for all of the titles about to leave, consider this a heads-up to make sure you catch things while you can.
Here is a full list of the TV shows and films leaving Amazon Prime Video UK in January and February 2016 – and the coming months.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame – 12th February
The House of Mouse’s animated musical, inspired by the Victor Hugo classic, follows Quasimodo, the bell ringer of Notre Dame, who has been kept locked up in the cathedral since his birth. Now a young man, he ventures down into the streets for the first time…
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street – Date TBC
Johnny Depp and Alan Rickman singing? Put aside any misgivings you may have: Stephen Sondheim and Tim Burton prove to be dream partners in this take on his gory musical, which waltzes wildly between laughs and shocks. (Read our full review.)
Source Code – Date TBC
If Hitchcock made science fiction, it would probably turn out something like this. Trains, romance, an unsuspecting male lead (Jake Gyllenhaal); it’s all delightfully North by Northwest, right up until the train goes kaboom. Eight minutes later, it happens again. And again. All the while, Captain Stevens tries to find and defuse the bomb – and woo his fellow passenger (Michelle Monaghan). Between the mainstream wit and time travel smarts, this is a cracking caper on a train.
The Heat – Date TBC
Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy are fantastic together in Paul Feig’s entertaining buddy cop thriller The Heat, which sees an uptight FBI Special Agent paired with a foul-mouthed Boston cop to take down a drug lord.
The Wolverine – Date TBC
James Mangold’s superhero flick sees Hugh Jackman reprise his role as Logan, who is summoned to Japan by an old acquaintance – only to discover that, for the first time in his life, he is mortal.
Clash of the Titans (1981) – Date TBC
Laurence Olivier and Harry Hamlin have the scene stolen from underneath their noses by Ray Harryhausen’s stunning stop-motion effects in this classic fantasy epic.
Creature Comforts, The Morph Files, Rex the Runt and Wallace and Gromit – Date TBC
Aardman fans, get ready to say goodbye to a whole heap of your favourite plasticine creations, from the cute Creature Comforts (Seasons 1 and 2, plus the “Goes to America” spin-off) and Wallace and Gromit’s Cracking Adventures to the amusing Rex the Runt and the stunningly imaginative The Morph Files.
