What’s leaving Amazon Prime Video UK in December 2018 / January 2019?
James R | On 19, Dec 2018
As the end of 2018 looms, it’s time to look back and reflect upon the best things you saw this year, and what you’ve still got to catch up on. But it’s also time to count down until a whole flood of titles leave your favourite subscription services, as licences expire on New Year’s Eve and aren’t renewed for the immediate future. This December, that means now’s the time to catch modern classics such as Interstellar, In Bruges, Hellboy II, and older gems, such as North by Northwest and The Thing.
This is your last chance to stream the following on Amazon Prime Video UK:
Interstellar – 19th December
What’s the secret to interstellar travel? Christopher Nolan can’t decide if it’s gravity, love or something else entirely in this muddled sci-fi epic, which stars Jessica Chastain, Sandra Bullock and Matthew McConaughey, but the visuals and world-building on display are undeniably beautiful to witness.
Shaun of the Dead – 21st December
“You’ve got red on you.”
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial – 21st December
If Stranger Things got you feeling nostalgic for Spielberg’s films of old, don’t miss the chance to re-watch this favourite from your childhood.
In Bruges – 21st December
Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson are on hilarious form in Martin McDonagh’s profane, profound thriller about two hitmen lying low in the titular Belgian town.
Kick-Ass – 21st December
Why so serious? Matthew Vaughn’s twisted, funny take on superheroes, based on the Mark Millar comics, is fun, thrilling and gloriously violent.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army – 21st December
Hellboy II cements Del Toro’s position as a phenomenal force of cinema and imagination: uncompromising, uncanny and unbelievable.
North by Northwest – 21st December
Cary Grant takes on Hitchcock’s classic innocent-man-on-the-run role in this iconic thriller about an ad exec who’s pursued by a ruthless spy after being mistaken for a government agent.
Jaws – 21st December
Dummm dum. Dummm dum…
Bridesmaids – 23rd December
Kristen Wiig is the beleaguered head bridesmaid as bedlam breaks out in the run-up to her best friend’s wedding.
The Thing (1982) – 23rd December
John Carpenter’s classic sees a remote Antarctic research station infiltrated by a shape-shifting alien. Who can be trusted? And who will make it out alive?
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World – 23rd December
Edgar Wright’s hyperactive style is a perfect fit for Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novels about Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera), a member of the band Sex Bom-Omb and a video game obsessive. Torn between two women, one of whom (Ramona Flowers) is literally his dream love, Scott has to fight all of Ramona’s exes to date her. This coming-of-age comedy tackles everything from projecting your ideals onto others and getting over past relationships to the way a young man uses computer games to understand the world. The stunning visuals, exciting action and laugh-out-loud jokes are the icing on a pixellated cake.
Children of Men – 23rd December
Alfonso Cuaron’s remarkable dystopian sci-fi, starring Clive Owen, only feels more relevant over 10 years after it was released.
The Holiday – 31st December
Dumped and depressed, English rose Iris (Kate Winslet) agrees to swap homes with similarly unlucky in love Californian Amanda (Cameron Diaz) for a much-needed break. Iris finds herself in a palatial Hollywood mansion while Amanda navigates the lanes of a picture-perfect English village. Also starring Jude Law and Jack Black.
The Talented Mr. Ripley – 31st December
Anthony Minghella’s adaptation of her novel, The Talented Mr. Ripley, is sumptuous stuff, with a stellar performance from Jude Law as rich boy Dickie Greenleaf and Matt Damon as the lower-class fraud who envies his life.
