YouTube Red has unveiled a first look at its new original film, The Thinning.

The movie, which is produced by Legendary Digital Studios, stars Vine’s Logan Paul and Peyton List as two students in a world where population control is dictated by a high-school aptitude test.

The film, directed by Michael Gallagher (Internet Famous), is the latest in a long line of young adult dystopian thrillers – it will surprise absolutely no one that our lead duo promptly decide to take the system down.

“I’ve always loved books and movies like The Hunger Games and Divergent…” says Peyton in this new video giving us our first look at the film – although the fact that it chooses to have its cast tell us about the video, rather than include any dialogue from the film, suggests that it might not be the best-written script you’ve seen. But with the ensemble including web celebs such as Lia Marie Johnson, Calum Worthy (Austin & Ally) and Ryan Newman (The Thundermans), there’s certainly some vlogging star wattage behind it.

It premieres on YouTube Red on 12th October, joining a sizeable list of new projects ordered by YouTube for its subscription service. Get the full lowdown on the site’s upcoming slate here.
