Walter Presents’ shows have racked up over 1 million views before the service is even one month old.
The VOD channel, which launched on Sunday 3rd January as part of Channel 4’s All 4 digital service, premiered a range of foreign-language TV series that would otherwise not be available in the UK. Named after Walter Iuzzolino, the Chief Creative Officer of Global Series Network, who curates the service, it will introduce more than 600 hours of drama for streaming on-demand this year, with shows hailing from Brazil, the Czech Republic, Argentina, Switzerland, Belgium, Mexico, Poland and Chile.
Walter Presents launched alongside the premiere of German thriller Deutschland 83 on Channel 4, which became the highest rated foreign-language drama in UK TV history with 2.5 million consolidated viewers. (Episodes of Deutschland 83 are then added to All 4’s Walter Presents collection after their broadcast each Sunday night.)
Now, Channel 4 has confirmed that Walter Presents’ online offerings have been just as popular, with 1.21 million views to date across all series and platforms (excluding Sky and Virgin).
Deutschland 83 has proven most popular, with Danish thriller Heartless and French political drama Spin second and third respectively. Channel 4 also highlights Argentine thriller Pure Evil and French comedy Kabul Kitchen as popular. The shows are all free to watch and download for offline viewing, with nine box sets currently available.
Jay Hunt, Chief Creative Officer at Channel 4, says: “Walter Presents has captured viewers’ imaginations in the most wonderful way. It’s thrilling to see so many people finding the best of world drama on 4.”
