Walter Presents record-breaking German crime drama Nick’s Law

Just over a year since it first launched with Deutschland 83, Walter Presents is going back to Germany for its latest TV series.
German drama is enjoying something of a renaissance at present, as evidenced in the UK by Deutschland 83’s performance, which became the highest rating foreign language drama show in UK TV history. Walter Presents’ latest acquisition is a crime drama with the star wattage of a German A-lister: Til Schweiger, who Tarantino fans will recognise from Inglorious Basterds.
Schweiger plays lone-wolf detective Nick Tschiller in this tense thriller. Moving his family to Hamburg, Nick is hoping for a fresh start when he takes up his new role at LKA, the State Criminal Investigation Department, but it doesn’t take long before his all-guns-blazing approach to law enforcement lands him in trouble with District Attorney Hannah Lennerts (played by Edita Malovcic). Drawn to the most disturbing and unsettling cases, Nick and his new partner, Yalcin Gümer (played by Fahri Yardim), find themselves charged with taking down the notorious Astan clan, who control Hamburg’s shady underworld. While his work life plunges him deep into the world of violent crime, his home life is also escalating out of control as his marriage teeters at breaking point.
Produced by Studio Hamburg for NDR, the series is written by Christoph Darnstädt and is part of the pan-European Tatort crime strand, which previously included Czech series Cenk Batu (also on Walter Presents).
The show drew a record 12.5 million viewers when it premiered in Germany, the best rating recorded in the country for 20 years. It spans four 90-minute episodes, with all six hours premiering at once on Walter Presents. The box set will be released on Friday 3rd March.
