Walter Presents is kicking off 2017 with Norwegian thriller Acquitted.
All 4’s online channel, dedicated to foreign-language TV shows from around the world, Walter Presents launched in the UK in January 2016. Since then, the site has given us shows from countries as wide-ranging as Brazil, the Czech Republic, Argentina, Switzerland, Belgium, Mexico, Poland and Chile.
Across its first year, the service has clocked up a whopping 17.5 million streams. At the start of 2017, it’s heading back to where the foreign TV boom first started for British viewers: Scandi Noir. And not just any Scandi Noir, but one of Norway’s biggest drama hits of the decade.
Set in the beautiful Norwegian Fjords, Acquitted follows successful business man Aksel Borgen (Nicolai Cleve Broch), who returns to his home town of Lifjord to save an ailing local firm from bankruptcy. Despite being acquitted for the murder of his high school sweetheart, Karine, 20 years ago, Aksel is still haunted by his past and his return opens old wounds for the villagers.
The show is created by multi-award-winning writer Siv Rajendram Eliassen and the acclaimed writer and actress Anna Bache-Wiig, known to UK viewers for her role as Inger Marie Steffensen in Mammon. When it first premiered, the series became Norway’s biggest ever drama for broadcast TV2. Since then, Season 2 has already set a new record, gaining over 40 per cent audience share at launch.
Acquitted is the first in a season of top-class Norwegian series that will be released on Walter Presents in 2017, including the Emmy Award-winning series Eyewitness, the multi-award winning smash hit Young & Promising and the eagerly anticipated Valkyrien.
All eight episodes will be released as a box set on Walter Presents on Friday 13th January.
