Walter Presents: Code 37 returns for Season 2 this May

Walter Presents returns to Belgium’s Ghent this May for a second season of Code 37: Sex Crimes.
The crime show, which premiered on the streaming service last year, follows Chief Inspector Hannah Maes, a Vice Squad detective who comes to the town to lead the all-male police sex crimes unit. Season 2 sees Hannah and her team continue to be confronted with bizarre, disturbing and sometimes brutal sexual crimes. With a courageous and steely determination to crack every case, Hannah is uncompromising in her pursuit of justice for every victim but there’s one case that continues to haunt her.
After battling the chauvinistic attitudes of her colleagues in Season 1, Season 2 picks up as Hannah has settled in as the unit head, but as a new case comes through, Hannah is temporarily suspended for setting up her own private investigation into a personal crime she witnessed years earlier. Bob, Charles and Kevin are left to their own devices to investigate the sexual assault of a 74-year-old woman in her home by a masked man, where the only clue is a bunch of red roses. But without Hannah’s firm guidance, they struggle to work effectively.
Veerle Baeten, who has previously starred in Walter Presents shows Tabula Rasa and The Team, returns to reprise her performance as Maes.
“It’s worth tuning in just to see Baetens sinking her teeth into a substantial lead role – it’s no surprise that with her front and centre, the show ran for three seasons when it first aired,” we wrote in our review of Season 1.
Season 2 premieres on Friday 17th May at 9pm on More4, with episodes airing weekly – and available on-demand via All 4’s Walter Presents following their broadcast.
Walter Presents goes back to Belgium for Code 37: Sex Crimes
4th August 2018
Walter Presents is going back to Belgium this August for new gritty crime series Code 37: Sex Crimes.
The intense thriller about a Vice Squad detective who joins the Ghent police department that deals with sexual offences will follow in the footsteps of Dicte, occupying More4’s Friday night slot. It also continues Walter Presents’ run of shows led by female crime fighters, after Rough Justice and Rebecka Martinsson earlier this year.
Veerle Baetens stars as Hannah Maes, the sharp and prodigious detective who leads an all-male police sex crimes unit and, at times, must battle the men in her squad as they challenge her ability to lead. However, they all have one common goal: find those responsible for these abhorrent crimes.
She objectively and expertly reads the subtle cues around her to get to the bottom of Belgium’s most shocking and unspeakable crimes. That skill is put to the test when the body of a 35-year-old headhunter – who was also a mother and wife – is found dead in a hotel in Ghent. The immediate assumption is that she is killed during erotic asphyxiation. For Hannah, this is a good enough reason to take the case from her colleagues in homicide – it needs specialist analysis. Her team have reservations about this move, but have no choice but to follow their boss. During the investigation, it soon becomes clear that the victim was a nymphomaniac who led a double life. Who did she have a one-night stand with that proved fatal for her?
The series marks a reunion between Baetens and Walter Presents, after the award-winning actress also starred in Tabula Rasa and The Team. It also joins a growing number of Belgian box sets on the foreign-language TV streaming channel, with a familiar blend of quirkiness and endearing characters, juxtaposed with realistic brutality.
The 13 episodes will air weekly on More4 at 9pm, starting on Friday 17th August, with each chapter then available on Walter Presents following their broadcast.
