Tyke Elephant Outlaw is now available to watch online in the UK.
The documentary, which was screened on BBC Four last month, follows the story of Tyke, a baby elephant who was captured from the wild in 1973 and trained to perform in a circus. 20 years later, she went on a rampage in Honolulu, killing her trainer.
What caused the animal to snap and become so violent? Susan Lambert and Stefan Moore trace Tyke’s journey with a detail that recalls the recent Blackfish. The is released on VOD today by Dogwoof, the same team who distributed the killer whale documentary in the UK. Together, they both portray the trauma and anger of captive animals used for entertainment, as Tyke proves that it’s not just whales who are poorly treated by humans.
Tyke Elephant Outlaw hits VOD in the UK today, with the film available to buy and rent on iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Google Play and Dogwoof.tv. It follows the VOD release of several other documentaries by Dogwoof: 2008’s Democrats, fascinating art fraudster profile Art and Craft and Best of Enemies, which hit cinemas and digital platforms on the same day in July.
