Tumblr launches live video streaming… with a difference

You can now stream live video to Tumblr. The launch of the service sees the Yahoo!-owned blogging platform join a growing number of contenders in the live-streaming game, including Facebook and YouTube.
Tumblr, though, has taken a different route to the rest of the pack: while Facebook has its own native platform built in to the social network, Tumblr is partnering with exciting video services to stream things to its site.
To start with, Tumblr has teamed up with YouNow (iOS, Android), Kanvas (iOS, Android), Upclose (iOS, Android) and YouTube (Android and iOS – the latter will be available in “a few days”). Users can then simply use their video app as normal, connect their Tumblr account and turn on Tumblr sharing. (If you have more than one blog, you can pick which one you’re posting to.)
Followers will see live vide in their dashboard while it’s live, with videos working like any other post – that means they can be reblogged and will stick around after their broadcast so other people can enjoy them at a later date.
