Warrior Nun cancelled by Netflix
James R | On 13, Dec 2022
Warrior Nun has been cancelled by Netflix after two seasons.
Based on the manga of the same name, the horror-action thriller revolves around a 19 year-old woman who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artefact embedded in her back. She discovers she is now part of The Order of the Cruciform Sword, a secret society of warrior nuns sworn to protect the world from evil, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her.
The show premiered back in 2020 and Netflix promptly ordered a second season.
“This unlikely pulp actioner is entertainingly ridiculous and ridiculously entertaining,” we wrote in our review of Season 1.
Now, though, Netflix has decided not to renew the show for a third chapter, as the streamer continues to weigh ratings against production costs with increasingly stringent criteria.
“I’ve just found out that @netflix will not be renewing #WarriorNun,” tweeted showrunner Simon Barry. “My sincere appreciation to all the fans who worked so hard to bring awareness to this series, and for the love you showed me, the cast and the whole production team. It was a privilege to be a part of this.”

Netflix orders The I-Land, Warrior Nun, October Faction
29th September 2018
Kate Bosworth and Alex Pettyfer will star in The I-Land, a new sci-fi series from Netflix.
The action adventure series follows 10 people, who wake up on a treacherous island with no memory of who they are or how they got there, and set off on a trek to get back home. They soon discover this world is not as it seems. Faced with the island’s extreme psychological and physical challenges, they must rise to their better selves – or die as their worst ones.
Kate Bosworth (The Long Road Home, Still Alice) stars as KC and serves as a producer on the series. Natalie Martinez (The Crossing, APB, Secrets and Lies, Under the Dome) will co-star as Chase, alongside Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike, I Am Number Four, The Strange Ones, Elvis & Nixon) as Brody.
The thriller is produced by Nomadic Pictures Entertainment, with Neil LaBute (Billy & Billie, Van Helsing) writing, directing and serving as show runner, alongside director Jonathan Scarfe (Van Helsing) and writer Lucy Teitler (Mr. Robot). Chad Oakes (Fargo, Hell On Wheels) and Mike Frislev (Van Helsing, Wu Assassins) are EPs on the project, with Teitler (Mr. Robot) and Scarfe (Van Helsing) service as co-exec producers.
The series is one of three new sci-fi projects ordered by Netflix this week. Building on the success of the IDW comic book series written by Steve Niles, October Faction follows globetrotting monster hunters Fred and Deloris Allen who, after the death of Fred’s father, return to their hometown in upstate New York with their teenage children Geoff and Viv. As the family adjusts, Fred and Deloris must hide their identities as members of a secret organization, and our heroes quickly discover that their new small-town setting isn’t as idyllic as it seems.
October Faction is produced by High Park Entertainment in association with IDW Entertainment and is created by showrunner Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow, Krypton), with Director X (Superfly, Mister Tachyon, Across the Line), Damian Kindler, Megan Follows (Reign, Anne of Green Gables), Mina Shum (Meditation Park, Ninth Floor) and David Frazee (Vikings, Orphan Black) attached to direct.
Inspired by the Manga novels, Warrior Nun revolves around a 19 year-old woman who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artifact embedded in her back. She discovers she is now part of an ancient order that has been tasked with fighting demons on Earth, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her.
Simon Barry (Ghost Wars, Continuum) is writer and showrunner, alongside Consulting Producer Amy Berg (Counterpart, Da Vinci’s Demons) and Co-Executive Producer Terri Hughes Burton (The 100, Eureka).
All three new series join Netflix’s growing sci-fi slate, which includes recent announcements The Order, Wu Assassins, Locke & Key, V Wars, and Another Life.
