Jamie Dornan is heading back to BBC One for New Year’s Day, and a new trailer gives us first look at Season 2 of The Tourist.
The thriller, which debuted on the same day in 2022, follows a man (Jamie Dornan) who wakes up in hospital with no idea who he is. Helen Chambers (Danielle Macdonald), a local rookie cop, is sent to check on him, but merciless figures from his past pursue him, sending them racing across the Australian Outback.
“Jamie Dornan delivers an intense leading turn in this entertainingly unpredictable thriller,” we wrote in our review of Season 1.
Now, Dornan (Belfast, The Fall) and Macdonald (Unbelievable, Dumplin’) are reuniting for Season 2. Set against the striking backdrop of Ireland, the six-part second season sees them dragged into a longstanding feud and forced to deal with the consequences of his past actions. After he goes missing, she seeks the help of Detective Ruairi Slater (Conor MacNeill, Industry, The Fall), before secrets of his past are later uncovered.
Joining the duo will be Niamh Cassidy (Olwen Fouéré, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Northman) and the McDonnell family – Donal (Diarmaid Murtagh, Vikings, Outlander), Orla (Nessa Matthews, Fair City), Fergal (Mark McKenna, Sing Street, One of Us is Lying), and Frank (Francis Magee, Kin, Then You Run) – and Monsieur Tioté (Réginal-Roland Kudiwu, Crime, The Widow, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan).
Created and written by Harry and Jack Williams (The Missing, Baptiste, Fleabag), Season 2 will premiere at 9pm on BBC One on 1st January 2024, with the full box set available from 6am.
