Netflix has cancelled the sketch show Astronomy Club after one season.
The comedy series is produced Kenya Barris, the creator of black-ish and Grown-ish, as well as Girls Trip. As part of his multi-year deal at Netflix with his Khalabo Ink Society, he invited audiences to the Astronomy Club last year, featuring the first all-black house team at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre – including Shawtane Bowen, Jonathan Braylock, Ray Cordova, James III, Caroline Martin, Jerah Milligan, Monique Moses, and Keisha Zollar.
Promising a fresh and original perspective on pop culture, media, race and more, it featured guest stars such as Ice Cube, Busy Philipps and Gillian Jacobs. Now, however, James III has confirmed that the show will not return.
“We’ve been getting lotsa love today so figured we should let y’all know Astronomy Club was sadly not renewed by Netflix and won’t have a season 2,” he revealed this week on Twitter. “We had a blast making it. Thank u for watching!!! (It’s still there if u haven’t yet) But we ain’t playing games, we’ll be back.”
The cast were reportedly told of the decision in February.
