Joe Swanberg is teaming up with Netflix again for a new film, Win It All.
The film, which stars Jake Johnson, marks a reunion between the indie film-making veteran and the streaming giant, following the premiere last year of Easy, an anthology series of relationship comedy and dramas.
“The result is a series of micro-plays, rather than TV episodes – short films that give Swanberg enough time to flesh out an interesting idea,” we wrote in our review. “These are concise, moving, often very funny bursts of humanity; shots of intimacy that remind you what can be done with a camera, some talented actors and a heavy dose of sympathy… This feels less like a TV series and more like serial eavesdropping.”
Now, Swanberg is back once more at the helm of a Netflix project, bringing his signature low-key intimacy with him. He’s also reuniting with Johnson, after he starred not only in an episode of Easy but also the film Drinking Buddies. Co-written by the duo, Win It All sees the New Girl actor play small time gambler Eddie Garrett, who agrees to watch a duffel bag for an acquaintance heading to prison. When he discovers cash in the bag, though, he’s unable to resist the temptation and winds up deeply in debt. When the prison release is shortened, Eddie suddenly has a small window of time to win all the money back.
The film co-stars Keegan-Michael Key, Joe Lo Truglio and leading Mexican actress Aislinn Derbez. Johnson and Swanberg also serve as producers, along with Alex Orr.
Win It All will premiere on Netflix worldwide on 7th April. Here’s the trailer:
