Bumpy will be back this October, and a new trailer gives us a first look at the second part of Godfather of Harlem’s second chapter.
Godfather of Harlem reimagines the story of infamous crime boss Bumpy Johnson, who in the early 1960s returned from ten years in prison to find the neighbourhood he once ruled in shambles.
It’s 1964 and Bumpy Johnson is battling the New York Crime Families for control of the lucrative and murderous “French Connection”, the heroin pipeline that runs from Marseilles to New York Harbor. With a distribution syndicate that includes Black crime bosses from other major U.S. cities, Bumpy takes a cue from his friend Malcolm X’s message of Black economic nationalism. His ambitious plan will face challenges from not only the Italians but his wife Mayme, daughter Elise, rival Adam Clayton Powell, prosecutor Robert Morgenthau and even Malcolm himself.
The series is written by Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein, and stars Forest Whitaker, who is also exec-producer.
Whitaker is joined on screen by a star-studded cast that includes Luis Guzman Alejandro “El Guapo” Villabuena, Nigél Thatch as Malcolm X, Ilfenesh Hadera as Mayme, Bumpy’s wife, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy as Elise Johnson, Bumpy’s daughter, Vincent D’Onofrio as Vincent “The Chin” Gigante, Lucy Fry as Stella, Vincent’s daughter, Kelvin Harrison Jr as aspiring musician Teddy Greene, Paul Sorvino as Frank Costello, Chazz Palminteri as Joe Bonanno and Giancarlo Esposito as Adam Clayton Powell Jr.
Part 2 kicks off with Episode 7, which arrives on STARZPLAY on 31st October, with three more episodes then following weekly. Part 1 of Season 2 and Season 1 are also available.
