Ethan Hawke is heading to Sky Atlantic later this year in new series The Good Lord Bird, and a new trailer gives us a first look at the striking period drama.
Starring and executive produced by the Oscar nominee, The Good Lord Bird follows the controversial abolitionist John Brown. The limited series, based on James McBride’s novel, is told from the point of view of “Onion,” a fictional enslaved boy who becomes a member of Brown’s motley family of abolitionist soldiers battling slavery in Kansas, and eventually finds himself in the famous 1859 Army depot raid at Harpers Ferry, an inciting incident of the Civil War. It’s a humorous and dramatic tale of Antebellum America and the ever-changing roles of race, religion and gender in American society.
From Blumhouse Television, the seven-part series airs on Showtime in the USA, which means it will air on Sky Atlantic in the UK. There’ll be a bit of wait for it to arrive here, though, with the US debut not until 9th August.
Until then, here’s the sensational trailer:
