The Dune-iverse is expanding with a new prequel series on the way to HBO Max.
Dune: Prophecy was unveiled this week with the first teaser for the six-part show, which is set 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides.
The drama will chart the origins of the Bene Gesserit, the sinister sisterhood who prophesy the events of Dune. It is based on the novel Sisterhood Of Dune, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson. Given extraordinary abilities by their mastery of the body and the mind, the Bene Gesserit expertly weave through the feudal politics and intrigue of The Imperium, pursuing plans of their own that will ultimately lead them to the enigmatic planet Arrakis, known to its inhabitants as Dune.
The series was formally unveiled during Warner Bros Discovery’s upfront presentation this week, several years after HBO Max first ordered the Dune prequel. It stars Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina and more. Alison Schapker serves as showrunner and executive producer.
The project marks Legendary’s continued success in the streaming age, having built a formidable universe around its Godzilla and King Kong franchise, including multiple Netflix animated series and a live-action Apple TV+ series.
Dune: Prophecy will premiere on Max in the USA this autumn, but has yet to find a UK TV home or release date. Watch this space for those details. Until then, here’s the trailer:
