“Is this trying too hard? I got it from TopMan, but it screams bottom.” That’s the sound of Big Mouth coming back much sooner than expected with a Valentine’s Day special.
Yes, Netflix’s naughty animated series, which is created by Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg, is returning hot on the heels of Season 2 for a one-off romantic episode – and promises to be anything but. The adult animation aims to bring the horror of puberty to life, and does so with a warped sense of humour and as many dirty jokes as possible – turning the growing pains of life into literal monsters with foul mouths and bizarre habits. And so we have The Hormone Monster (Nick Kroll) and The Hormone Monstress (Maya Rudolph), as well as The Shame Wizard (David Thewlis), the Hormone Monster’s mortal enemy, who haunts the kids and preys on their deepest shame. The kids, meanwhile, are young Andrew (John Mulaney) and his best friend, Nick (Kroll), as well as Gina (Gina Rodriguez), a girl on Missy (Jenny Slate) and Jessi’s (Jessi Klein) soccer team.
Netflix renewed the show for a third season at the end of last year, before announcing yesterday a surprise February return. Titled My Furry Valentine, you can expect the filthiest night in of the year, judging by its trailer, which features a parody of When Harry Met Sally’s iconic diner scene. But, you know, really, really wrong.
Big Mouth: My Furry Valentine premieres on Friday 8th February. Here’s the trailer:
Big Mouth is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.
