Tom Hanks inks overall deal with Apple TV+
Tom Hanks and his producing partner at Playtone have inked an overall with Apple TV+.
Their production company, which they founded in 1998, has produced everything from That Thing You Do! to Mamma Mia!, with six Emmys to its name for its TV work. Goetzman and Hanks are also recipients of the PGA’s Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television. Now, the company a multi-year agreement in place with Apple TV+, which will see Playtone exclusively develop, produce and distribute all forms of TV for the streaming service, including series, limited series, documentaries and unscripted projects.
The deal builds on its existing film and series relationship with Apple TV+, which includes the Oscar-nominated thriller Greyhound, starring Hanks, and the upcoming limited drama series Masters of the Air, from Apple Studios, Playtone and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television, which follows the true story of the American bomber boys in WWII who “brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep”.
A Greyhound sequel is also reportedly in the works.
