“Guess who’s landing a role in the latest Star Wars movie…” That’s the sound of Steven Toast returning to our screens in Toast of Tinseltown – and a new trailer gives us a fresh slice of Matt Berry’s Toast in hot, buttery action.

Written and created by Arthur Mathews and Matt Berry and produced by Objective Fiction, Toast of London originally aired between 2012 and 2015. The series stars Matt as Steven Toast, a RADA trained actor living in the heart of Soho’s Theatre-land. Forced to share digs with eccentric fellow actor Ed Howzer-Black (played by Robert Bathurst). Ill-advised by his agent Jane Plough (played by Doon Mackichan) and mistreated by his peers including arch nemesis Ray ‘Bloody’ Purchase (Harry Peacock), Toast becomes increasingly desperate in his attempts to get the career and recognition he adamantly thinks he deserves.

Now, Toast of Tinseltown will see Berry reprise his role as the middle-aged actor, as Toast moves to Hollywood and attempts to become a movie star. It will premiere on 4th January at 10pm on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer. Here’s the trailer:

 

Toast: BBC iPlayer serves up fresh slice this January

Matt Berry’s Toast will officially return to our screens this January, with a fresh slice of comedy served up by BBC Two – and, to warm up your plate beforehand, the whole of Toast of London has popped up on BBC iPlayer.

Written and created by Arthur Mathews and Matt Berry and produced by Objective Fiction, the 18 episodes of Toast of London originally aired between 2012 and 2015. The series stars Matt as Steven Toast, a RADA trained actor living in the heart of Soho’s Theatre-land. Forced to share digs with eccentric fellow actor Ed Howzer-Black (played by Robert Bathurst). Ill-advised by his agent Jane Plough (played by Doon Mackichan) and mistreated by his peers including arch nemesis Ray ‘Bloody’ Purchase (Harry Peacock), Toast becomes increasingly desperate in his attempts to get the career and recognition he adamantly thinks he deserves.

All three previous seasons are now exclusively available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Toast of London Season 1 to 3 is available on BBC iPlayer until November 2022.

 

Toast of Tinseltown: Matt Berry heads to BBC for new comedy series

Steven Toast is back – and he’s found a new home at the BBC.

Matt Berry will reprise his role as the middle-aged actor for Toast of Tinseltown, a new six-part series that follows Toast as he moves to Hollywood and attempts to become a movie star.

Three seasons of Toast of London originally aired on Channel 4 between 2013 and 2015, all written by Arthur and Matt, who scooped the BAFTA Best Male Comedy Performance for his role. Written and created by Arthur Mathews and Matt Berry and produced by Objective Fiction in association with wiip, Toast of Tinseltown will feature a mix of new and returning cast members and is set to be filmed later this year.

Berry says: “I couldn’t be more thrilled to not only be working with Arthur and the rest of the Toast family again, but to also be taking the show to the BBC which I know Toast himself would very much approve.”

Mathews adds: “It was a thrill to be writing Toast again after a long gap. Hollywood is a brave new world for Toast. There will be triumphs and tribulations (but mostly tribulations – and indeed humiliations).”

Shane Allen, Controller of BBC Comedy Commissioning, comments: “This sitcom is one of the stand-out comedy gems of the last decade. His name belongs in the pantheon of celebrated British comedy character buffoons – Partridge, Brent and Toast.”
