Jennifer Aniston and Tig Notaro are headed to the White House.
Yes, the pair have been elected First Ladies by Netflix for a new political comedy. The film, which is written by Notaro and Stephanie Allynne, will see America’s first female President and her wife take over the Oval Office.
Based on an original pitch by Allynne and Notaro, the film was ordered by Netflix today, with Chris Henchy on board as executive producer. The political comedy follows Beverly and Kasey Nicholson as they move into the White House, proving that behind every great woman… is another great woman.
Starring alongside Notaro will be Jennifer Aniston, with both stars producing the project, alongside Allynne, as well as Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Betsy Koch for Gloria Sanchez Productions.
Aniston needs no introduction to Netflix subscribers, after all of Friends was added at the end of last year, but she is also at the forefront of the streaming landscape, joining Reese Witherspoon as the co-star and co-exec producer of a new morning TV show drama on Apple TV. Notaro, meanwhile, may have seen her Amazon series One Mississippi cancelled after two seasons, but this commission expands the comedian’s relationship with Netflix; her original comedy special Tig Notaro Happy to Be Here debuts on 22nd May on the streaming service, and she will also direct Ellen DeGeneres’ upcoming Netflix original comedy special.
