Doctor Who lands in our living rooms once again this Christmas and, while the return of Matt Lucas as Nardole might suggest we’re retreading old ground, this trailer promises new, super territory.
The Christmas special will see Peter Capaldi’s Doctor join forces with a comic-book superhero in New York for The Return of Doctor Mysterio, written by Steven Moffat. Charity Wakefield (Wolf Hall, The Player) will star alongside Capaldi as an investigative journalist, as the trio unite to save New York from an alien threat.
“I’ve always loved superheroes and this Christmas Doctor Who dives into that world,” says Moffat. “My favourite superhero is Clark Kent. Not Superman, Clark Kent.”
“Working with the amazing people at Doctor Who has been one of the most fun and rewarding projects I’ve ever had the pleasure of being involved with,” comments Justin Chatwin (Orphan Black), who plays Grant in the special. Joining Grant and Lucas are Adetomiwa Edun (Lucifer, Bates Motel), Aleksandar Jovanovic and Logan Hoffman.
The 60-minute episode, Exec Produced by Brian Minchin, Produced by Peter Bennett and Directed by Ed Bazalgette (Poldark), will air on BBC One this Christmas. Here’s the new trailer, including some behind-the-scenes shenanigans:
