Trailer: Channel 4’s Home set for March premiere
David Farnor | On 26, Feb 2019
Rufus Jones’ new Channel 4 comedy, Home, premieres this March, and a new trailer gives us a first look at what’s in store.
Written by and starring Jones, the half-hour series follows new couple Peter (Rufus Jones – W1A, Inside No. 9, Camping, Hunderby) and Katy – plus Katy’s son John – as they go on their first family holiday to France. Their plan is to bring back a tan, a few happy memories and six crates of vintage champagne. What they actually bring back is going to come as a big surprise: Sami, a Syrian refugee who enters Britain illegally to claim asylum. Living in with Peter, Katy and John, Sami and his adoptive family discover and come to terms with what a home really means.
“The plight of Syrian refugees has been recorded and explored many times by documentary-makers,” says Channel 4, “but in Home Rufus Jones has penned a warm, touching and deftly surprising modern sitcom which gets to the very essence of home and family.”
The show premieres at 9.45pm on Tuesday 5th March. Here’s the video:
There’s no place like Home: C4 commissions Rufus Jones comedy

Following last year’s successful Comedy BLAP of the same name, Channel 4 has commissioned a full series of comedy Home.
Written by and starring Rufus Jones, the half-hour series follows new couple Peter (Rufus Jones – W1A, Inside No.
The plight of Syrian refugees has been recorded and explored many times by documentary-makers, says Channel 4, but in Home Rufus Jones has penned a warm, touching and deftly surprising modern sitcom which gets to the very essence of home and family.
Rufus Jones, writer and star, says: “I’m made up that Channel 4 have allowed me to tell this story, alongside a very special cast and crew. It has become something of a passion project. If you’re only going to invite one refugee into your house this year, make it this one. Actually, make it a real one, then this one. Thanks.”
Home has been commissioned for Channel 4 by Fiona McDermott, Head of Comedy, and Tanya Qureshi, Commissioning Executive. The series will be produced by Jantaculum and Channel X. Producer for Jantaculum is Adam Tandy (Inside No. 9, Damned, The League of Gentlemen, Detectorists). Executive Producers for Channel X are Alan Marke (Detectorists, Hebburn, Lunch Monkeys) and Jim Reid (Detectorists, So Awkward, Lunch Monkeys).
McDermott comments: “Home got us with it’s heart and conviction to tell an important story about family, strangers, identity and the fragile ties that both bind us and pull us apart. It’s full of warmth, boldness and characters we hope viewers will really take to their hearts. We’re delighted to have it on Channel 4.”
