The Tuckers: BBC One Wales orders new sitcom
BBC One Wales will set a lighthearted tone at the start of 2020 as The Tuckers hits television screens. The six-part sitcom, written by and starring comic actor Steve Spiers (Stella, Upstart Crow, Pirates Of The Caribbean), follows the fortunes of the Tucker family, a close-knit, extended family of lovable rogues.
The series explores the love/hate relationship between members of the clan as they try to earn their living, sometimes on the wrong side of the law.
Alongside new comedy on BBC Wales, true crime fans can also look forward to another series of The Crash Detectives. This popular factual series takes viewers behind the cordon of Gwent Police’s dedicated forensic collision investigators as they deal with serious incidents on the road. The second season of psychological drama Hidden will also return in 2020, with Sian Reese-Williams (Line Of Duty, Emmerdale) back as DI Cadi John. In My Skin will also air this year, after its pilot episode won two Bafta Cymru awards for its pilot episode.
Nick Andrews, BBC Cymru Wales Head of Commissioning, says: “Following a Christmas period filled with high profile, made in Wales productions taking centre stage on the BBC, including His Dark Materials, Gavin And Stacey and Doctor Who, 2020 looks set to be another year of great telly. Both The Tuckers and In My Skin were originally pilot episodes made with BBC Wales development funding, and it’s great to see this funding bear fruit as the programmes return as full series.”
