Playdate with Destiny, a new short from The Simpsons, is now available on Disney+.
Disney’s fledgling Netflix rival faces a challenge when it comes to new original content, but has no trouble whatsoever when it comes to archive titles, with a host of Disney classics in its vault, not to mention (thanks to its acquisition of Fox) almost all of The Simpsons. Now, adding to that bumper collection are five brand new minutes of Springfield entertainment.
“Earlier this year we made a nifty short film called Playdate with Destiny,” wrote the short’s creators, including Matt Groening and director David Silverman, on Twitter yesterday. “The response was so gratifying we wanted everyone to see it at home. So here ya go.”
The show sees Maggie Simpson rescued by a cute young baby from playground peril. It seemed like just another day at the park, but when Maggie faces danger, a heroic boy steps in and steals her heart. After a blissful first playdate, she can’t wait to see her new baby beau the following day, but things do go planned. Will fate – or Homer – get in her way. It’s a classic tale of girl meets boy, girl loses boy, guess what happens next.
