Doctor Who Confidential returned in a regenerated form last month in Doctor Who Extra, an iPlayer-only series that gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at the show.
The move was welcome for many, with Doctor Who Confidential cut due to budgetary restraints for several years, while shows such as Strictly Comed Dancing continued to receive a dedicated behind-the-scenes show on linear TV. Now, though, the dance series is follow Doctor Who’s beat and taking a similar step onto the VOD floor with Strictly Red Carpet.
Presented by Zoe Ball, the one-off 20-minute show will offer viewers “unlimited access” to all the glitz and glamour of the Hollywood-style event. Viewers will see all the celebrity contestants of 2014 interviewed for the very first time, as they begin their journey into a life of sequins and sambas. Featuring among the 15 are Pixie Lott, Gregg Wallace and Judy Murray. Viewers will also be introduced to the new professional dancers – Joanne Clifton, Tristan McManus and Trent Whiddon.
The announcement builds on BBC iPlayer’s strategy to showcase more exclusive content within the service. With over 10 million people accessing programmes on iPlayer every week on over 1200 devices and platforms, as well as around 16 million people per week pressing the red button from the comfort of their sofa, the Strictly Red Carpet exclusive will be available from 7.30pm on Red Button and 10pm on BBC iPlayer on Saturday 3rd September 2014
