Spiderman: Into The Spider-Verse swings five places up to Number 1 on the Official Film Chart after a tight battle with Mary Poppins Returns.
Following its release on disc last week, Into The Spider-Verse crosses the finish line ahead of the Mary Poppins sequel by fewer than 900 sales, meaning Mary Poppins Returns takes a step down to Number 2.
“Wholly unique and jaw-droppingly stylish, this progressive, post-modern story of parallel realities is one of the best superhero movies ever made,” we wrote in our review of the animated adventure.
With Avengers: End Game dominating the cinema box-office, 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War charges up six places to Number 3 as an impressive 15 superhero films feature in this week’s Top 40, with 13 of the titles based on Marvel comics’ characters – including Thor, Captain America and Dr Strange.
Mortal Engines rebounds seven spots to Number 4 following its disc release; Aquaman drops three to 5; Bohemian Rhapsody gets another week in the chart at Number 6.
Ant-Man And The Wasp becomes the second film in the Top 10 to reap the benefits of End Game as it flies eight places to Number 7.
This week’s highest new entry is The Favourite at Number 8 on digital downloads alone. Set in early 18th century England, it stars an Oscar-winning performance from British actress Olivia Colman as the frail Queen Anne, who occupies the throne while her close friend, Lady Sarah, governs the country in her stead. But when a new servant, Abigail, arrives, loyalties soon become frayed.
Black Panther has also entered the Official Film Chart Top 10 for the first time – giving Marvel a Top 10 hat trick – leaping 10 spots to Number 9. Finally, Ralph Breaks The Internet rounds up the chart at Number 10.
You can watch this week’s Official Film Chart show below, which features a preview of Keira Knightley in Colette, a biopic of the French novelist Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, available to download and keep from 6th May.
