Horror streaming service has acquired indie horror Sun Choke for release this spring.
The directorial debut of Ben Cresciman, the movie stars horror icon Barbara Crampton and Sarah Hagan (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Freaks and Geeks). Hagan plays Janie, who is recovering from a violent psychotic break, which includes being subjected to a bizarre holistic health and wellness regimen designed, and enforced, by her lifelong nanny and caretaker (Crampton). But when Janie develops an obsession with a stranger, her buried demons begin to surface.
The film premiered in the US back in May 2015, before going on to screen at the UK’s FrightFest festival in August of that year. FrightFest is familiar ground for AMC’s horror subscription site, which continues to snap up horror films and TV shows from festivals around the world. Since its launch last Halloween, the site has debuted French series Beyond the Walls, J-horror blockbuster (and TIFF Midnight Madness closing film) Sadako vs Kayako, Fantastic Fest hit Alex de la Iglesia’s Witching & Bitching and, fresh from the BFI London Film Festival, Shrew’s Nest and The Corpse of Anna Fritz.
Sun Choke will premiere Sun Choke on 9th March in the UK.
