HBO renews And Just Like That… for Season 2
23rd March 2022
And Just Like That… a second season happened. Yes, HBO has renewed its Sex and the City revival for another chapter.
From executive producer Michael Patrick King, the series brings together once again Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.
In Season 1, the trio were joined by Sara Ramírez, Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, Karen Pittman, Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg, Willie Garson and Evan Handler.
“Juxtaposing the show’s central characters with these fresh perspectives and stories, alongside Miranda and Charlotte’s increasingly grown-up children, means our beloved trio have plenty of potentially rich, emotional and intelligent storylines to sink their perfectly white teeth into,” we wrote in our review, which highlighted the show’s potential, despite its uneven nature.
The result was certainly divisive among fans, not least because of the series’ decision to bring back Chris Noth, who was surrounded by allegations of sexual assault while the revival was airing.
Nonetheless, HBO has now confirmed that the show will be back, after it had the strongest debut of any HBO Max Original series to date.
Michael Patrick King said: “I am delighted and excited to tell more stories about these vibrant, bold characters – played by these powerful, amazing actors. The fact is, we’re all thrilled. And Just like That… our Sex life is back.”
Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content at HBO Max, added: “We have been delighted by the cultural conversation generated by these characters and their stories, set in a world we already know and love so much. We are proud of the work Michael Patrick King and our wonderful writers, producers, cast and crew have done to bring these stories to the screen. We can’t wait for fans to see what’s in store for Season 2!”

Sex and the City revival heading to HBO Max
11th January 2021
HBO Max has greenlit yet another revival, with Sex and the City this time heading back to our screens.
HBO’s streaming service has been swift to capitalise on Warner’s back catalogue of titles to try and draw in subscribers, with reunions for shows such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Friends, not to mention revivals of Gossip Girl and True Blood. Now, it’s getting Carrie Bradshaw and her friends back together – not for a reunion, but for a whole new revival series.
Titled And Just Like That…, it will see Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis reprise their roles as Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte. Picking up with them in the 50s, if follows them as they navigate friendship and love in New York. They’ll be one friend down, however: Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha in the original series, will not return. Parker, Nixon and Davis, meanwhile, will executive produce as well as star, alongside EP Michael Patrick King.
HBO Max has ordered 10 half-hour episodes, with production set to begin in New York this spring. The news was announced last night on Instagram with a short teaser dropped by the cast.
“I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humour and the beloved city that has always defined them,” Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max, said in a statement.
The original series premiered on HBO back in 1998 and ran for six seasons – until 2004 – and then spawned two big screen outings, including 2008’s Sex and the City and 2010’s Sex and the City 2. With Sky currently holding the rights to the original show, there’s a likelihood that the revival will end up on UK TV screens there, although watch this space for confirmation, as HBO’s international plans for HBO Max remain unclear.
