Sarah Michelle Gellar to star in Amazon’s Hot Pink

Sarah Michelle Gellar is heading to Amazon Studios for coming-of-age comedy Hot Pink.
The series is loosed inspired by Elana K Arnold’s novel What Girls Are Made Of. Published in 2017, the book follows Nina, who, reeling from a shameful break-up with a boy she unabashedly worshipped, drifts between school and her days volunteering at a dog shelter. But she’s looking for something more. A way to fix her mistakes. Unsure of how to move on, Nina peels back the moments that have shaped her and given her a view of girlhood distorted by violence and sacrifice. One that led her to do something unspeakable to a fellow student. As Nina grapples with regret, strange memories of a trip to Italy with her mother start to surface.
Elisabeth Holm (Obvious Child) created the series and is executive producing with Rebecca Green (It Follows), Sue Naegle and Ali Krug for Annapurna, and director Desiree Akhavan (The Miseducation of Cameron Post). Now, with Gellar joining the project, Deadline reports that Amazon has ordered a pilot.
Gellar is, of course, no stranger to the small screen, having played the iconic role of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as well as starring in CBS’ The Crazy Ones and ABC’s All My Children. Most recently, she signed on to lend her vocals to Netflix’s animated series Masters of the Universe: Revelation.
If the projects gets a full series commitment from Amazon, it will join a growing young adult slate at Amazon Prime Video, including The Wilds, which has been renewed for a second season.
